What is different between a Laser Hair Removal, performed at Artisan Aesthetics, from other spas and medical centers?
Currently most “light-based” hair removals that are performed at spas use an Intense Pulse Light (IPL) equipment that is very painful, or utilize older lasers that are not very effective or comfortable. All Laser Hair Removals at Artisan Aesthetics are performed using the technologically most advanced state-of-the-art laser equipments. This provides our patients with the safest and most effective method of Laser Hair Removal, even in the most sensitive areas of their body, including Brazilian bikini.
What should I do before undergoing Laser Hair Removal?
It is imperative to stay away from the sun or tanning booths for 4-6 weeks preceding a treatment session.
You must avoid tweezing, plucking, waxing, bleaching or electrolysis of the hair for 6 weeks prior to treatment session.
Some medications accentuate the effects of the laser therapy. Prior to initiation of treatment, patients must discuss their medications with the medical provider of the Laser Hair Removal. If any medication that cases sensitivity or reaction to laser therapy is taken, the treatment will be postponed.
Advise the medical provider if you have a history of peri-oral herpes (cold sore). You may be prescribed an antiviral therapy prior to the initiation of treatment.
If you have dark skin, a bleaching cream may be started 4-6 weeks prior to the initiation of treatment.
You should discuss your desired results and the improvement you expect to achieve with your medical provider. Together you can decide if your expectations will be met and if the laser treatment is your best option.
What should I expect from Laser Hair Removal?
You will have your make-up removed, if applicable, and your skin cleansed.
Long hair will be shortened with an electronic clipper and shaved with a razor. If convenient, you may decide to perform this task at home.
What are the results of Laser Hair Removal and how long before I notice the results?
Hair grows in cycles and different areas of the body have different growth frequencies. Laser energy predominantly affects the hair that is in the early growing phase. Before “falling off”, the treated hair may continue to grow for 3-10 days after treatment. This hair should not be tweezed, pulled, removed or bleached. If desired, the area can be shaved. Daily gentle washing with a mild soap and clean warm cloth may expedite the removal of the treated hair.
Repeated treatment sessions are required to remove the majority of hair. In most patients optimal removal of hair in a given region will require an average of 4-6 sessions which are separated 4-6 weeks apart. The treated areas hair must be shaved 2-3 days before each session. The remaining hair will be significantly finer in texture and lighter in color.
Application of chemical peels, astringents, Retin-A and other chemicals must be avoided. For 4-6 weeks before and after treatment, patients may shave these hairs but must refrain from electrolysis, waxing, plucking or bleaching them.
You will be wearing a protective eyewear throughout the treatment session.
Depending on the treatment site, the Laser Hair Removal treatment will last approximately 15-60 minutes.
Most patients explain the sensation as “tingling” or “stinging”. In extreme cases, a topical anesthetic agent can be applied to the treated areas.
After a treatment, you can expect your skin to have a pink glow and potentially feel like a mild sun burn. This will usually last from 30 minutes to a few hours. Patients should be able to resume all normal activities immediately.
Follow up home care instructions for your skin type will be reviewed. Hydrating and other skin care products may be recommended or prescribed to assist you with your goals. It is strongly advised that you arrive for your first session with your current skin care products so the physician and aesthetician can review these products with you.
